Registration with PSI (EU Pharmacist)

Ready to make the next step in your pharmacy career and move to Ireland?

Ireland opens a world of possibilities for pharmacists but in order to work here, pharmacists will need to register with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI). Our step by step guide below will take you through the entire registration process for those who obtained their degree within an EU country. If you're looking to move to Ireland from a country outside of the EU, you can check out our other blog post here.

EU Pharmacist registration with the PSI is a two-step process:

1. Application for recognition of your qualification.
2. Once the qualification recognition is obtained, the second step is an application for registration.

You can apply for qualification recognition under the EU route of registration by creating an account, submitting your details and the necessary documents, and paying the registration fee directly and securely online.
→ The portal contains instructions and information videos to assist you with your application.

Stage 1: Application for Recognition of Qualification

Duration: 4 to 6 weeks if the application is filled out and all the documents are submitted correctly.

  • Create an account on the PSI online registration portal (you will be asked to confirm your email address and phone number by verification codes sent to you)
  • Fill in all of your information for the profile and upload your profile image (you won’t be able to complete further steps without the profile image)

Need help creating an account and completing your profile? Check out this video!

  • Once you have your account set up, go to “Home” and click “Qualification Recognition” - here you can create a new application for recognition of qualification

 2. Complete all of the questions

In order for the PSI to recognise your qualification, the pharmacist competent authority in your home state must issue:

  • Certificate of Good Standing (also known as Certificate of Current Professional Status) - confirms how your qualification is compliant with Article 10, 21 or 23 of Directive 2005/36/EC
  • Conformity Declaration

Note: Both of these documents are only valid for 3 months.

You must request these documents to be issued and sent directly to the PSI by the competent authority.

3. Upload the required documents

  • Passport or ID card
  • Evidence of Formal Qualification - the certificate awarded to you by your University
  • Health Status Declaration - this is a certificate completed by your medical practitioner attesting that he or she is not aware of any reason on grounds of physical or mental health why you might be unable to discharge the responsibilities of a registered pharmacist.

If any of these documents are not in the English or Irish language they are required to be translated, signed and stamped by a qualified translator. The translation should then be uploaded.

Note: Health Status Declaration is only valid for 3 months.
